Remnants
By: Mylan Tran-Roark
Balancing full-time work to support myself for this degree, I’ve been stripped bare with only remnants of myself that remain. In the same way that each piece of fabric is not yet a garment until it’s sewn together, these internal remnants are what shape me as a whole today. Each piece is constructed thoughtfully with hidden details and minimal visible seams, highlighting how small fragments add value to each garment. In a constant struggle to keep up with my peers, I feel “undressed”- expressing that vulnerability through an ironic display of undergarments. My thesis collection is an attempt to bring my inner to the outer and have stripped bare “remnants” become their own whole. This collection is a reflection of and dedication to lower economic class kids like me, who are exhausting themselves simply to keep up.
